The Golden Ratio.

The Golden Ratio, an irrational algebraic number, expresses the relationship
that the sum of two quantities is to the larger quantity as the larger is to the
smaller.

At least since the Renaissence, many artists and architects have proportioned
their works to approximate the golden ratio. Mathematicians have studied the
golden ratio because of it's interesting properties.

Mr. Petrie, who had never heard of the golden ratio until August 2006, recently
took a look at the "douglas film" logo, which he had designed in 2001, and found
it to contain no fewer than nine golden ratio elements... 'nuff said.
